Drummer Boys on both sides.
Were the life of camp, youthful and brave. They too were
soldiers charging up
front beating the calls on their drums. Some as young as 10. They were
like mascots in some companies generally loved by all the men. They carried
no weapons only their brightly painted drums and polished drum sticks,
standing tall beside the color bearer and the standard either the Starry
Cross or Old Glory, Yes they were brave they stood in the thickest of the
fight musket balls buzzing past their heads while canister and shell burst
before them. Many now are nameless some became famous, but they all had
one thing in common they were some of the bravest of all the men.
The Song playing in the
background is the Minstrel Boy. A popular song on both sides.
