Siren

The eerie echo of sirens
 announces yet another senseless act
shadows cling
to every alley and walk way
as city lights form pools of yellow
against the washed out gray of the buildings
the stink of fear and death
rides the night
like an apocalyptic figure
dealing death without reason
Mothers cry mourns
as the young child lays dead
victim of a stray bullet
fired with careless indifference
by men who only care for themselves
Feeding poison into children’s veins and minds
for filthy lucre
they will destroy the promise of the future
 caring only for the present
while the young boys brother vows revenge
they count the nights take
